Кстати о Мерлинах.
Вот такое письмо пришло из Музея Москито (!):
My name is Bob Glasby from the Mosquito Museum, I have been forwarded your
video on the Malta Mosquito, what excellent video - really clear.
I am sorry for taking so long to reply, but I have been studying it with Ian
Thirsk, Head of Collections at the RAF Museum, and we think it is probably
one of three aircraft:
It is definitely a late mark of Night Fighter, probably an NF 30 or 38, and
as such would have served with the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm.
We have come to this conclusion as the aircraft has Merlin engines with
two-stage superchargers and there appears to be 20mm ammunition and cooling
pipes for the 20mm canon fit.
Ian has determined that the aircraft if probably one of the following:
MM273
NS531
or PF512
All three of these served with 728 Squadron of the Fleet Air Arm.
One final point, there appears to be blocks of 20mm canon ammunition on the
wreck - see attached grabbed picture.
If so these probably still have cordite in them and possible high explosive
heads in some rounds - so please be careful.
If you get further video we would love to see it.
Best regards
Bob Glasby
